Living in the midst of a pandemic has been difficult on everyone, and the recent spike in COVID-19 cases has caused many families to worry about those who are most vulnerable. This is especially true for families with loved ones who live in a retirement community.
Because older generations are at a much higher risk of contracting the virus, we understand that residents and their families might be feeling anxiety regarding their health and safety.
At OPAL by element, we believe in encouraging all of our community members to live happy, full and engaged lives. This is why we are going above and beyond to ensure that we keep our community as safe as possible.
How We’re Helping Our Community Live Well Amid COVID-19
Since the earliest days of the pandemic, we have taken every recommendation from the Provincial Health Authority very seriously. Our staff members consistently exceed safety expectations, and all of our residents are encouraged to do so as well.
Everyone who lives and works here is closely monitored for any symptoms of the virus, and the entire OPAL community fully supports all of the government’s medical directives regarding pandemic precautions. We will continue to closely follow all of the healthcare guidelines until the pandemic subsides.
As of now, we are happy to say that there has been no outbreaks in our community. Any of our members who feel unwell or suspect COVID-19 symptoms are encouraged to self-isolate and immediately notify healthcare workers so that they can be monitored and tested if necessary.
A Brief Pause in Socializing
In keeping with our commitment to the health and safety of our residents, we are pausing all visits from external contacts including friends and family until further notice. In addition, we are asking everyone in our community to wear a mask within the shared space in our residence and when leaving the residence, even if physical distancing is possible.
We know that this may be an inconvenience for some, but we are so thankful to be a part of such an understanding community of people. At OPAL, we value our neighbours as if they were family, and we are proud to do our part in helping to keep Vancouverites safe and healthy.
Stay Happy, Healthy and Safe This Holiday Season
We hope to see COVID-19 cases drop again soon so that everyone can celebrate the holidays with loved ones. Until then, the OPAL community will be taking every possible precaution to ensure that staff and residents feel happy, healthy and safe at home,
